The smooth ride and peaceful cabin of the Palisade were emphasised during our test drive of a loaded Calligraphy model throughout Asheville, North Carolina. We also tried some minor off-roading and were pleased to find that the large SUV could manage terrain that is beyond what you’ll find in the urban jungle. Our all-wheel-drive XRT test vehicle reached 60 mph from zero in 6.4 seconds and came to a halt from 70 mph in 161 feet during our testing.
Tough and burly is the goal of several three-row crossovers. Others provide athletic performance. Instead, the Palisade offers the highest level of competence in a calm, elegant setting. It lacks personality but has the same cosy, manageable poise that would make a fantastic minivan.
However, we don’t intend to downplay the skill. For an SUV, the Palisade handles and rides rather nicely. Even more noise is kept out of the cabin with available laminated windows. This large crossover can be accelerated with ease thanks to the 3.8-liter naturally aspirated V6 engine’s 291 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque (if not exhilarating thrills). In an era of turbocharged four-cylinders, this huge displacement engine sounds conventionally rich and smooth when mated with a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic gearbox.
